MARKUS PALTTALA
Markus Palttalahas embodied endurance racing’s essential virtues, consistency, intelligence, and teamwork.
Born in Nakkila, Finland in 1977, Markus Palttala has built one of the most respected and enduring careers in modern GT and endurance racing. Known for his technical insight, smooth driving style, and loyalty to the BMW brand, Palttala represents the professionalism and longevity that define the sport’s most trusted competitors.
After early years in single-seaters, Palttala transitioned to GT and endurance racing, a move that would shape his long-term success. Kicking off his career in the Finnish Touring Car Championship in 1998, before his career took him to the 2001 European Super Production Championship. His breakthrough came with BMW Sports Trophy Team Marc VDS in 2011 and 2012, where he became a central figure in the brand’s European programs. In 2015, he captured his most iconic victory, an overall triumph at the 24 Hours of Spa in the BMW Z4 GT3 alongside Nick Catsburg and Lucas Luhr, a result that remains one of BMW’s hallmark endurance wins of the decade.
Throughout his career, Palttala competed in premier championships including the Blancpain Endurance Series, IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and 24 Hours of Le Mans, earning victories and podiums across both GT and prototype machinery.
Beyond his results, Palttala’s reputation extends into driver development and mentorship. His experience and attention to detail have made him a trusted guide for emerging racers and established professionals alike.
