JAN LAMMERS

Lammers’ legacy represents the essence of endurance history: a life devoted to racing, a career that spanned eras, and a name forever linked to Le Mans immortality.
Born in Zandvoort, Netherlands in 1956, Jan Lammers is a symbol of endurance, resilience, and motorsport heritage. His career, spanning from the late 1970s to the modern era, reflects an extraordinary journey through Formula 1, Group C endurance racing, and prototype competition, establishing him as one of the Netherlands’ most distinguished racing figures.

Lammers’ early career saw him rise rapidly through the European single-seater ranks. His natural racing progression led him to Formula 1 (1979 to 1982), where he competed for teams including Shadow, ATS, Ensign, and Theodore. Lammers later made a return to the Formula One grid during the 1992 season. Lammers’ determination and technical skill earned him widespread respect.

His greatest triumph came in 1988, when he won the 24 Hours of Le Mans driving the Jaguar XJR-9 LM alongside Johnny Dumfries and Andy Wallace. That victory ended Porsche’s dominance and marked Jaguar’s return to endurance glory. Beyond that success, Lammers collected multiple podiums at Le Mans and continued to race prototypes well into the 2000s, including with his own team, Racing for Holland. Racing for Holland became a beloved entry in the FIA Sportscar Championship and at Le Mans. Lammers and his team showed great success by combining his racing skills with his management skills to win the 2002 and 2003 FIA Sportscar Championship.

Throughout his five-decade career, Jan Lammers has embodied the true spirit of endurance racing showing perseverance, adaptability, and an unwavering love for racing. His influence extends far beyond the cockpit, serving as an ambassador for Dutch motorsport and a mentor to future generations.
